Nigeria signs MoUs to empower women farmers and improve agricultural data

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) signed a memorandum of understanding in Abuja to launch the Women Agro‑Value Expansion (WAVE) Programme. The initiative aims to support three million women farmers by expanding access to finance, mechanisation, digital tools and training across the agricultural value chain. Minister Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman‑Ibrahim said the partnership will fill financing gaps and help women move from small‑holder farming to agro‑entrepreneurship.

Separately, the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) also signed an MoU in Abuja to strengthen the generation, validation, exchange and analysis of agricultural data. Executive Secretary Mohammed Ibrahim highlighted that reliable statistics are essential for evidence‑based financing, policy formulation and investment decisions, while NBS CEO Adeyemi Adeniran noted the agreement will create a unified framework for accurate agricultural statistics.

Both agreements are intended to boost Nigeria’s agricultural sector, improve productivity and support economic development.
