Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund implements digital reforms and expands coverage
The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has undergone significant institutional reforms, transitioning from manual processes to a digitalized and more accountable system. Managing Director Oluwaseun Faleye reported that since management assumed office in July 2024, the Fund has addressed structural imbalances through staff audits and a voluntary exit exercise to create a leaner, more functional organization.
Under the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS), the NSITF now covers more than 7.8 million workers. The Fund has also improved operational efficiency, reducing the average claims turnaround time from 14 days to 10 days. Faleye emphasized that retirement security must be established during a worker's active career through protection against occupational diseases, injuries, disability, and death.
