Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority expands healthcare investments

The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) is expanding its deployment of patient capital into the Nigerian healthcare sector to address infrastructure deficits and reduce reliance on medical tourism. Through the Nigeria Infrastructure Fund (NIF), the authority provides long-term financing for large-scale projects that are often avoided by commercial banks.

A primary focus of this strategy is the development of diagnostic services, including advanced imaging and laboratory technology such as MRI and CT scanners. The NSIA also aims to strengthen the pharmaceutical supply chain to decrease dependence on imported medications.

Under the leadership of Managing Director and CEO Aminu Umar-Sadiq, the NSIA has established MedServe, a wholly owned subsidiary dedicated to advancing oncology and specialized medical services. A key achievement of this initiative is the MedServe–LUTH Cancer Centre in Lagos, which provides 3D Conformal Radiotherapy and holds the largest concentration of radiotherapy equipment in West Africa.
