Nigeria steps up anti‑human‑trafficking drive with Lagos arrests and Kogi awareness walk
Security agencies in Kogi State staged a public awareness walk on the 2026 World Day Against Human Trafficking. The Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigeria Police Force, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Federal Road Safety Corps and Vehicle Inspection Office marched from Paparanda Square to the Government House in Lokoja, urging vigilance against deceptive recruitment schemes. The event was organized by the Senior Special Assistant to the Kogi Governor on Human Trafficking, Hon. Patience Avosuahi, who highlighted the threat of traffickers luring victims with false promises of work and education.
In Lagos, the Nigeria Immigration Service announced the arrest of 12 foreign nationals – a Burkinabe identified as Ouattra Adama, eight Liberians and three Cameroonians – accused of running a transnational human‑trafficking and fraudulent recruitment network linked to the QNET/IGNITE scheme. Two victims were rescued, and the suspects were transferred to the service headquarters for further investigation.
