Nigeria strengthens anti-corruption efforts in maritime and media sectors
Nigeria is seeing increased efforts to combat corruption through strategic partnerships in the maritime and media sectors. The Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) has commended the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for implementing reforms that have improved transparency and the business environment within the maritime sector.
MACN leadership noted that these reforms are attracting regional attention, with countries such as Ghana and Senegal reportedly developing mechanisms inspired by the Nigerian model. The organization emphasized that sustainable change requires collaboration between government institutions, industry stakeholders, and civil society.
Simultaneously, the Media Anti-Corruption Initiatives (MACI) has partnered with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to enhance media-driven transparency. This collaboration aims to shift anti-corruption efforts from a reactive approach to a preventive, citizen-driven campaign. Key objectives include training journalists on anti-corruption reporting, developing data-sharing frameworks, and promoting responsible investigative reporting to support legitimate investigations.
