Nigeria strengthens maritime security through new pact and militant raids

The Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) have renewed a strategic partnership through a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Signed in Abuja, the agreement aims to strengthen maritime safety, security, and coordination across Nigeria’s maritime domain to support the nation’s Blue Economy.

In a separate operational development, the Nigerian Navy disrupted a militant network in Bayelsa State. During a raid on a suspected camp in the Fununu community, naval personnel arrested three individuals allegedly linked to militant kingpin Sunday Godlaw. The operation resulted in the recovery of various items, including a pump-action rifle, AK-47 magazines, and communication equipment. The suspects were handed over to the Department of State Services for investigation.
