Nigeria strengthens UN ties and assumes budgetary committee chairmanship

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to the United Nations and its principles, emphasizing the organization's role in humanitarian action, peacebuilding, and regional development. During a meeting in Abuja with outgoing UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Mohamed Malick Fall, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sola Enikanolaiye called for innovative funding models and stronger private sector collaboration to address shrinking humanitarian and development budgets.

Simultaneously, Nigeria has assumed the chairmanship of the UN General Assembly Fifth Committee, also known as the Administrative and Budgetary Committee. Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, stated that the nation intends to prioritize transparency, accountability, and administrative reforms. Ibrahim emphasized a results-oriented approach to ensure UN expenditures provide tangible benefits to Member States and called for greater institutional efficiency within the UN Secretariat.
