Super Eagles secure AFCON qualifying win over Madagascar

The Nigeria national football team, the Super Eagles, secured a 2-1 comeback victory against Madagascar in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match in Uyo. Debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor provided the goals, with Ilenikhena equalizing in first-half stoppage time following an assist from Alex Iwobi.

Following the win, the Nigerian contingent has arrived in Bissau to prepare for a critical Group L clash against Guinea-Bissau. Officials from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and former players have urged the squad to maintain focus and prepare for a highly physical encounter against the hosts, who recently defeated Tanzania 2-0.

In related news, Portugal's head coach Jorge Jesus praised Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, ranking him alongside Erling Haaland as one of the most dominant forwards inside the penalty box. Ilenikhena, who wore the number nine jersey during Osimhen's absence, cited the striker as a major influence on his development.
