African football teams begin 2028 Olympic qualification campaigns
African national football teams are beginning their qualification campaigns for the 2028 Olympic Games.
In Nigeria, the Super Falcons have commenced preparations for their two-legged qualifying tie against Comoros. Interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen is managing several key player withdrawals, including Asisat Oshoala, Ashleigh Plumptre, and Oluwatosin Demehin. To bolster the squad, Eguavoen has called up Belarus-based forward Blessing Okpe. Due to the lack of a standard pitch in Comoros, both legs of the matchup will be hosted at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.
In Ghana, the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have established a joint strategic roadmap to support the Black Queens and Black Meteors. This coordinated effort aims to end the country's 24-year absence from Olympic football. The Black Queens are scheduled to begin their qualification campaign in June 2026, facing Mauritius in the second round, while the Black Meteors will begin their campaign between November 2026 and March 2027.
