Nigeria targets $750m private investment for cloud infrastructure

The Nigerian government has announced a National Digital Cloud Policy aiming to attract $750 million in private sector investment for local cloud and data infrastructure over the next 24 months. The initiative, disclosed by Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume at the GITEX 2026 Government Leadership & AI Summit in Abuja, seeks to transform Nigeria into a global exporter of digital solutions and artificial intelligence.

As part of this digital expansion, the government plans to roll out a 90,000-kilometre fibre optic network intended to reach every state, local government, and ward in the country. This project will be supported by the deployment of approximately 3,700 telecommunications towers, which aims to connect more than 20 million Nigerians living in underserved communities.
