Nigeria targets recovery of 788,000 barrels of daily shut-in oil production

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) is working to recover more than 788,000 barrels of oil production per day that is currently shut-in across 63 operators. This initiative aims to increase national output more rapidly than waiting for new exploration cycles to complete.

Additionally, the commission is pushing offshore projects, estimated to be valued between $30 billion and $50 billion, toward Final Investment Decisions. To attract fresh capital, the NUPRC plans to offer 40 oil and gas assets through its newly launched 2026 licensing round.

NUPRC Chief Executive Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan stated that the strategy focuses on removing investment barriers and expanding government revenue. Recent technical efforts include the successful re-entry of 77 wells and the approval of 128 wells for drilling this year.
