Nigeria tennis team departs for Morocco Davis Cup tie
The Nigerian tennis team has departed for Rabat, Morocco, ahead of their Davis Cup World Group II tie scheduled for September 19 and 20, 2026. The players and officials of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) traveled via Royal Air Maroc to prepare for the high-stakes encounter at the Union Sportive des Cheminots de Tennis du Maroc.
Nigeria is seeking to secure a historic victory to advance to Davis Cup World Group I, a goal that would mark a significant milestone for the nation. The squad includes Daniel Adeleye, Canice Abua, Michael Emmanuel, and Yusuf Abubakar, led by Head Coach Benson Ishicheli. Rising star Oluwaseun Ogunsakin, who has competed in Grand Slam tournaments such as Roland Garros and the US Open, is expected to join the lineup in Morocco.
This fixture follows Nigeria’s victory over Uzbekistan in February, which secured their spot in this group for the first time in 30 years. The upcoming tie against Morocco is a chance to break a losing streak, as Nigeria has lost all four of its previous meetings against the North African side.
