Nigeria threatens striking doctors with no-work, no-pay policy

In Nigeria, Labour and Employment Minister Chris Ngige has threatened to implement a ‘no-work, no-pay’ policy against striking doctors if their industrial action continues. The threat follows an indefinite strike launched by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to protest the government's failure to address salary arrears and outstanding allowances.

NARD representatives recently rejected government proposals regarding the implementation of a Memorandum of Agreement. While the government has expressed intent to review the hazard allowance, which has remained at 5,000 since 1992, negotiations remain stalled.
