OK Movement rejects political merger ahead of 2027 elections

Ahead of the 2027 Nigerian general elections, the OK Movement—a political platform supporting a potential joint ticket between Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso—has officially rejected any merger or absorption by external political organizations. In a communiqué issued following a national leadership summit in Abuja, the group resolved to maintain its independence to protect its grassroots momentum and existing programs, though it remains open to coordinating with allied groups.

The movement also rejected rumors regarding the removal of its founder and Director-General, John Ughulu, asserting that its ward-level structure is built upon his leadership and personal credibility.

Separately, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Peter Obi’s 2023 running mate, expressed skepticism regarding the viability of an Obi-Kwankwaso alliance in Northern Nigeria. Datti noted that securing support in the Muslim-dominated North would be difficult, citing religious and political challenges he personally encountered during the previous campaign cycle.
