Nigeria to admit first cohort at new military medical college
The Nigerian Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, has announced that the Armed Forces College of Medicine and Health Sciences (AFCOM-HS) will be listed on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) portal for the 2026/2027 academic session.
Located within the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Yaba, Lagos, the institution is preparing to admit its pioneer cohort of 100 cadets. The college has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to offer degrees in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) and Nursing Science (B.NSc.).
The initiative aims to strengthen military healthcare services and address critical manpower shortages within Nigeria’s broader health sector. By integrating medical education with military officer development, the college intends to equip cadets with clinical competence, professional ethics, and leadership skills to enhance national health security.
