Nigeria to host 2027 AEAA conference as NECO Registrar elected Vice-President

Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria’s National Examinations Council (NECO), has been elected Vice-President of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA).

The decision was endorsed by the AEAA General Assembly during its 42nd Conference held in Arusha, Tanzania. In addition to Wushishi’s election, Nigeria has secured the rights to host the 2027 AEAA Conference, which is scheduled to take place in Abuja from August 16 to August 20, 2027.

According to NECO officials, these developments highlight Nigeria’s growing influence in educational assessment, particularly as the sector navigates digital transformation and the integration of artificial intelligence in testing and certification. Since assuming office in 2021, Wushishi has implemented reforms to modernize examination administration and expand technological infrastructure. NECO examinations are currently conducted in eight foreign countries.
