Nigeria to miss ITTF Africa Championships team events

Nigeria will be absent from the team events at the 2026 ITTF Africa Championships, scheduled to take place in Tangier, Morocco, from October 18 to October 26. The exclusion follows Nigeria's failure to attend the regional qualifiers in Conakry, Guinea, earlier this year, a decision attributed to financial constraints and rising airfare costs. Under ITTF Africa regulations, missing the zonal qualifiers results in automatic disqualification from the continental championships.

Despite the absence from team competitions, several Nigerian players will participate in the singles categories. Captain Quadri Aruna and Olajide Omotayo have secured spots through their world rankings. Additionally, Matthew Kuti and Sultan Agunbiade received wildcards following their performances at the Africa Youth Championships. In the women’s singles, Fatimo Bello and Sukurat Aiyelabegan qualified via rankings, while Kabirat Ayoola, Favour Ojo, and Aziza Sezuo were awarded wildcards.

With Nigeria out of the team events, defending champions Egypt will compete against nations including Algeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Angola, and Cameroon at the Salle Omnisports Arena.
