Nigeria to reward teachers with cars and laptops
The Nigerian Federal Government has announced a new incentive program for the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebrations to recognize exceptional educators and institutions. To boost morale and attract talent to the teaching profession, the government will provide significant material rewards, including brand-new cars for the top three overall best teachers and a utility school bus for the best-performing Federal Unity College. Additionally, all 14 individual awardees will receive laptops to support digital instructional delivery.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, announced that the selection process has been fully automated and digitized. This reform aligns with African Union guidelines and aims to create a secure digital reference system for the awards. The initiative is part of a broader effort to address welfare challenges and improve the prestige of the teaching profession within the nation’s public school system.
