Nigeria tourism stakeholders urge infrastructure investment

At the Welcome to Nigeria Expo 2026 in Abuja, tourism stakeholders called for increased investment in infrastructure to transform the sector into a major driver of economic growth. The two-day event, themed “Global Perspectives to Nigeria Tourism Master Plan: Infrastructure Development, Sub-sectoral Growth, and Economic Prosperity,” brought together investors, regulators, and tourism professionals.

Isah Sago, CEO of the Welcome to Nigeria Development Initiative, emphasized that infrastructure is the foundation for destination competitiveness. He identified reliable transport, quality accommodation, digital connectivity, security, and sanitation as essential elements for attracting investment and improving the visitor experience.

Participants also highlighted the need for improved immigration processes and better coordination between airlines, airports, and hospitality businesses. Stakeholders noted that strengthening the tourism sector could support small businesses and create employment opportunities for women and young people across Nigerian communities.
