Nigeria traditional festivals highlight Yoruba heritage and national unity

Major traditional festivals are underway in Nigeria, highlighting Yoruba cultural heritage and national unity. In Owo, Ondo State, the 2026 Igogo Festival is being positioned as a tool for cultural education, tourism, and youth engagement. Led by the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, the celebration aims to preserve historical identity through royal ceremonies and traditional processions.

In Ile-Ife, Osun State, the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has entered a seven-day spiritual seclusion in preparation for the 2026 Olojo Festival. During this period, the Ooni intends to pray for the peace, unity, and progress of Nigeria. Before entering seclusion, the Ooni urged political leaders to prioritize the welfare of citizens and national sovereignty over individual political interests.
