Nigeria's Flying Eagles advance to WAFU B U-20 semi-finals

Nigeria’s U‑20 football side, the Flying Eagles, qualified for the semi‑finals of the 2026 WAFU B U‑20 Championship despite a 2‑0 loss to Burkina Faso in their final group match. The team finished second in Group B with six points, after earlier victories of 4‑2 over Ghana and 3‑0 over Togo.

The semi‑final will be played on 5 August at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Abidjan, where Nigeria will face the tournament hosts Côte d’Ivoire. The two finalists will also secure automatic qualification for the 2027 Africa U‑20 Cup of Nations. Burkina Faso, the group winners, will meet Niger in the other semi‑final.

Coach Aliyu Zubair Zubairu’s side will look to rebound from the defeat and contend for the title and continental qualification.
