Nigeria Union of Journalists announces 2026 annual lecture in Ekiti

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel, Ekiti State Council, has announced its 2026 Annual Public Lecture and Award Ceremony. Scheduled for September 3, 2026, at Abacha Hall in Ado-Ekiti, the event will feature the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, as the Royal Father of the Day.

Other expected attendees include Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande. The lecture, delivered by former senator Ayo Arise, will focus on the theme ‘Internal Democracy, Good Governance, the Media and Future of Nigerian Democracy.’

The program aims to examine challenges facing Nigerian democracy and the media's role in strengthening democratic institutions. The event will also include an award ceremony to recognize distinguished citizens and a fundraising session to procure digital journalism tools for the chapel.
