Nigeria Union of Journalists partners with Women’s Centre

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council and the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development have entered a partnership to enhance gender-sensitive journalism and promote women’s inclusion in Nigeria.

During a meeting in Abuja, NUJ FCT Council Chairperson Grace Ike and Centre Director-General Dr. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi discussed leveraging media influence to document women’s contributions to national development and address barriers to gender equality. The initiative aims to ensure women’s stories are adequately reflected in historical records and public discourse.

Dr. Benjamins-Laniyi proposed structured collaborations, including periodic training sessions and media roundtables, to equip journalists with the skills to report accurately on issues such as economic empowerment, leadership, and gender-based violence. The partnership seeks to move beyond occasional coverage to make women’s development a consistent part of the national conversation across all media platforms.
