Nigeria Vice President Kashim Shettima Highlights Regional Development and Hajj Reforms

Vice President Kashim Shettima praised the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for a seamless 2026 Hajj operation and said the performance should become the benchmark for future pilgrimages. He noted Saudi authorities’ plan to shift 98 % of Nigeria’s Hajj quota to private tour operators under a business‑to‑business model aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, and NAHCON announced a phased implementation to manage economic and operational risks.

Shettima also met the management of the South West Development Commission (SWDC), urging the body to prioritize innovation, effective collaboration and transparent, measurable projects that can attract private investment. He said the commission’s success will be judged by the quality of roads built, jobs created, businesses supported and communities transformed, and called for peer review and idea‑sharing with other regional development commissions.

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) reported the construction of mega schools in three senatorial districts of Adamawa State, providing fully equipped classrooms, staff quarters, solar power, boreholes and other facilities to bridge the education gap between rural and urban children. Education is identified as the fourth pillar among the commission’s eleven development pillars for the region’s recovery and renewal.
