Nigeria's INEC releases preliminary 2027 voter register online

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has launched an online portal to allow citizens to inspect the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general elections. This digital release follows a nationwide physical display conducted between October 9 and 15, 2026, and aims to address stakeholder concerns regarding transparency and public access.

According to INEC, the online platform allows voters to verify their details, including names and photographs, at their specific polling units. The commission is currently processing claims and objections arising from the display exercise. The final register of voters is scheduled for certification and publication on December 15, 2026.

Data from the 2026 register shows Nigeria's total voter population has grown to 103,428,715, up from 93,469,008 in 2023. However, demographic shifts indicate a decline in the youth segment (ages 18–34), which fell from approximately 37 million to 29.7 million. Conversely, the 35–49 age group saw significant growth. Analysts have noted that the North-West and South-West regions remain critical battlegrounds, collectively holding over 44 million registered voters.
