APC revises National Assembly candidate list for 2027 elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee submitted a revised list of National Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general election. The changes, based on the party’s Primary Election Appeal Committee report, replace seven senatorial candidates and 19–20 House of Representatives nominees across nine states (Kogi, Abia, Benue, Taraba, Ondo, Niger, Kwara, Kaduna and Ebonyi). Notable replacements include former Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam, who was removed in favor of Senator Emmanuel Udende, and the substitution of incumbent senators such as Adeniyi Adegbonmire in Ondo Central and Olajide Ipinsagba in Ondo North. The party also reshuffled dozens of federal constituency candidates.

The revisions sparked protests in Ondo State, where women, youth and APC women leaders blocked the Ilesa‑Owo Expressway, accusing the National Working Committee of imposing a “fake” list that ignores primary results. Demonstrators demanded the withdrawal of the altered list and the reinstatement of candidates who won the May primaries.

Separately, governors from the APC’s Progressives Governors Forum met in Abuja, reviewing the primary outcomes and resolving to work with party leadership on addressing democratic challenges and preparing for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
