Nigerian AI Initiatives Advance with University Centre Launch and Ethics Summit

The University of Benin in Nigeria announced the creation of an on‑campus AI Centre, secured by philanthropists Tom Ilube, CBE, and Hakeem Belo‑Osagie. The centre is part of the newly launched University of Benin Trust Development Fund, which also targets upgrades to student housing, ICT infrastructure and renewable energy projects.

Separately, Nigerian graduate researcher Ighodalo Uyi Ebhodaghe presented at the COPA AI 2026 summit in Wales, urging businesses to adopt ethical and responsible AI practices. His session highlighted the need for transparency, governance and public trust when deploying AI systems that can interpret human emotions.

Both events underscore a growing focus on artificial intelligence development and governance linking Nigerian expertise with broader international discussions.
