Nigerian Air Force records 6,100 flying hours in security operations
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) reported recording over 6,100 flying hours and more than 2,900 sorties between November 2025 and September 2026. These operations, which consumed nearly 10 million litres of Jet A-1 aviation fuel, were conducted in support of national security operations.
According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the missions included precision air strikes, armed reconnaissance, surveillance, and close air support intended to disrupt hostile groups and assist ground troops. The operations were guided by intelligence-led planning and defined objectives.
As part of a transformation agenda under Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, the NAF has focused on personnel welfare, technological advancement, and fleet modernization. Recent developments include the receipt of five helicopters in September 2026—three AW-109 Trekker Type B and two H125 models—and ongoing efforts to acquire 12 AH-1Z attack helicopters and unmanned aerial systems.
Regarding personnel, the NAF reported significant advancements, including the promotion of 57 senior officers and over 3,400 non-commissioned officers. Additionally, more than 6,000 personnel received local training, while 550 participated in international professional engagements.
