Nigerian-American doctor Ikenna Okezie praised for US dialysis innovation

The United States Mission in Nigeria commended Nigerian‑American physician and entrepreneur Dr Ikenna Okezie for his role in transforming kidney care in the United States. Okezie is the chief executive officer and co‑founder of Somatus, a value‑based care company that provides in‑home dialysis support for patients with chronic kidney disease and related heart‑failure conditions.

Born in Nigeria and raised in Detroit, Okezie earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Yale and a combined MD/MBA from Harvard. He previously served as Group Vice President at DaVita, overseeing a $1 billion business unit, and held senior roles at McKinsey & Company and the Advisory Board Company. Somatus, valued at roughly $2.5 billion, partners with nephrology, cardiology, primary‑care groups, health plans and health systems to deliver integrated, home‑based care, reflecting a broader shift toward value‑based healthcare in the United States.
