Nigerian Army arrests two and seizes mining equipment in Kogi State

Troops from the Nigerian Army's 12 Brigade have arrested two individuals and seized equipment allegedly intended for illegal mining in Kogi State. The interception occurred as a vehicle was traveling between Girinya in the Kogi Local Government Area and Agbaja in the Lokoja Local Government Area.

Items recovered during the operation included a Hiace bus, shovels, a petrol pump, head pans, and other tools used for mining. State Security Adviser Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd) stated that the successful operation was the result of credible intelligence and highlighted the effectiveness of intelligence-led security measures in the region.

Omodara warned that unregulated mining activities pose a significant security risk, as they can provide criminal elements with access to remote forest locations. The Kogi State Government has pledged to continue its collaboration with the military to crack down on such activities to protect the state's security and economic stability.
