Nigerian Army graduates 924 Borno forest guards

The Nigerian Army has graduated 924 forest guards from Borno State following the completion of a six-week intensive military training programme. The training, conducted at the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division in Jos, Plateau State, focused on preparing personnel to protect forest areas, safeguard surrounding communities, and preserve natural resources.

During the exercise, trainees received instruction in weapon handling, marksmanship, patrol operations, physical conditioning, discipline, and tactical awareness. The curriculum was designed to enable guards to operate effectively in challenging forest environments and respond to security threats during both daytime and nighttime operations.

Major General Valentine Okoro, the Chief of Training (Army), emphasized that the graduation is a significant milestone in addressing security challenges within forested regions. He noted that the guards are intended to serve as a “community first line of defence.” Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Maxwell Dangan urged the graduates to perform their duties with professionalism and restraint, warning against the abuse of authority to maintain community trust.
