Nigerian Army graduates new Special Forces battalion
The Nigerian Army has graduated a new Special Forces battalion at the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Doma, Nasarawa State. The ceremony was presided over by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.
The new battalion is intended to bolster counter-terrorism operations and enhance the military's ability to dismantle criminal networks and navigate difficult terrain. Lieutenant General Shaibu noted that as the Army expands from eight to 12 divisions, there is a critical need for increased specialized capabilities to maintain operational readiness and nationwide security coverage.
The training focused on addressing evolving security threats, such as the use of drones and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Over a six-month period, soldiers underwent intensive training involving complex obstacle courses and specialized exercises designed to build resilience and spatial orientation. Shaibu emphasized the importance of discipline, intelligence-led operations, and respect for human rights to maintain public confidence during tactical missions.
