Nigerian Army investigates sexual abuse allegations against Captain Etim Essien
The Nigerian Army has launched an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving Captain Etim Essien, an officer stationed at the Headquarters of the 3 Division in Jos, Plateau State.
Reports indicate that Essien is accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl, who is reportedly deaf and non-speaking, and fathering a child with her. The victim was allegedly living under the care of Essien’s family in Taraba State and is identified as the younger step-sister of the officer’s wife.
Division spokesperson Captain Olumide Olukoya stated that the military takes allegations involving minors and vulnerable persons with utmost seriousness. He noted that appropriate steps have been initiated to establish the facts and emphasized that the army will cooperate fully with relevant civil authorities. The military has urged the public to refrain from speculation and to respect the privacy and wellbeing of those involved while the investigation proceeds in accordance with military regulations and existing laws.
