Nigerian Army rescues retired general’s wife in Abuja

The Nigerian Army has rescued Mrs. Adonkie, the wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, following her abduction from her residence in Abuja on September 1, 2026.

Troops from the Guards Brigade and the Army Headquarters Garrison launched a coordinated operation through the Aco Estate and Goza Community areas. The military pressure forced the kidnappers to abandon the victim near Angwan Sabo Village.

In a follow-up operation on September 2, troops from the 176 Guards Battalion and 197 Special Forces Battalion intercepted two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate near Gaube Village in the Kuje Area Council. During the encounter, security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 19 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. The two suspects are currently in custody for profiling, while military operations continue to track other members of the syndicate.
