Nigerian Army secures weapon surrenders and exhumes slain Imo leader in South‑East operation
The Nigerian Army’s 82 Division and Joint Task Force South‑East, operating under Operation UDO KA, forced militants in the Egbema area of the South‑East to voluntarily surrender arms. Recovered items included an AK‑47 rifle, two magazines, 54 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, two General‑Purpose Machine Guns, additional 7.62 mm rounds and an improvised explosive device. The operation was described as a result of sustained kinetic and non‑kinetic pressure, intelligence‑driven raids and collaboration with other security agencies.
In a related action, troops conducting Operation UDO KA and Operation EASTERN SANITY II uncovered a shallow grave in the Umudike Forest and exhumed the body of the late community leader Anyadu. A suspect, arrested for violent crimes, led soldiers to the burial site after confessing involvement in the murder. The exhumation was carried out in the presence of the victim’s family and local vigilante groups, and the commander of the Joint Task Force, Maj‑Gen Oluremi Fadairo, offered condolences and pledged prosecution of the perpetrators. Both actions are part of a broader effort to dismantle criminal networks and restore security in Nigeria’s South‑East.
