Nigerian authorities arrest suspects in human trafficking and baby selling cases
Nigerian law enforcement agencies have conducted several operations targeting human trafficking and illegal child sales. In Lagos State, police operatives rescued three young girls during a routine patrol in Badagry. The girls were being transported on a commercial motorcycle when officers intercepted the vehicle. Investigators are currently working to identify those responsible for the alleged trafficking operation, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba.
In Bayelsa and Benue States, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, in collaboration with the Department of State Services, arrested four individuals including a federal civil servant. The suspects, identified as Wilson Erurom, Marksoo Uzer, Albert Motemi, and Gabriel Gav, are accused of conspiracy and the buying and selling of babies. The arrests followed a failed transaction involving an intending buyer who had reportedly responded to an advertisement promising children through various methods, including outright adoption.
