Nigerian authorities implement digital systems to combat crime and taxation issues
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has called on hoteliers and transport operators to adopt the National Transit E-Manifest (NTEM) technology. This digital platform aims to combat kidnapping, armed robbery, and human trafficking by improving access to passenger and guest records and strengthening intelligence gathering. The system integrates identity verification, including National Identification Number (NIN) checks, to help security agencies trace suspects and identify suspicious movements.
In Osun State, the government has introduced the Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management System Law, 2026. This initiative seeks to eliminate multiple taxation and illegal collections within the transport sector. The framework will utilize technology such as electronic identification, QR and NFC credentials, digital payment records, and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) to create a more transparent and organized transport system.
