Nigerian aviation faces high costs and levies, says Air Peace Chairman

During the 70th birthday celebration of Chisco Group founder Chidi Anyaegbu, Air Peace Chairman Allen Onyema highlighted the significant challenges facing Nigeria’s aviation industry. Onyema noted that local airlines struggle with high operating costs, aircraft maintenance expenses, and difficulty accessing financing. He specifically pointed to multiple government charges and levies that compress profit margins despite the high revenue generated by the sector.

Onyema emphasized the government's role in fostering a supportive environment for private enterprise, stating that the state should provide a “noble environment for the private sector to thrive.” While acknowledging some recent interventions by the President Bola Tinubu administration regarding certain airline charges, he called for further action to alleviate the financial pressures on operators.

Separately, Chisco Group founder Chidi Anyaegbu marked his milestone by donating two Mercedes-Benz buses to the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ikoyi, Lagos. The donation aims to assist with the transportation of inmates to court proceedings.
