Nigeria's EFCC arraigns Usie Otukpa Osang on multi‑million crypto fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Usie Otukpa Osang before the Federal High Court in Abuja on June 29, 2026 on eight counts of fraud. Prosecutors allege he impersonated “Oscar Tyler” and “Ford Thompson” to solicit investments in a fictitious cryptocurrency platform called Liquid Assets Group. The scheme reportedly defrauded Australian investor Brian Jacques Creigh of AUD 8,427,330.83 and US $3,639,462, and also extracted Bitcoin worth about US $1,079,313 through a Binance wallet.
Osang pleaded not guilty to all charges. The EFCC requested a trial date and asked that he be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre while his bail application is heard. The court adjourned the matter to July 14, 2026 for the bail hearing, ordering his continued detention pending further proceedings.
