President Bola Tinubu calls for halting unnecessary flyovers and boosts security amid 2027 election push

President Bola Tinubu told state governors to stop constructing flyovers in areas with little traffic and to use the four‑to‑five‑fold increase in federal allocations for road networks that improve security and citizens’ quality of life. He said the extra funds should be directed to arteries that help security agencies reach rural communities.

Tinubu also announced the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to twelve divisions and pledged intensified operations after a recent Kaduna attack that killed about 30 residents. He condemned the assault and ordered the armed forces, police and intelligence agencies to track the perpetrators.

In a separate meeting with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, Tinubu was urged to invite Pope Leo XIV to visit the country, which the bishops said would benefit Nigerians. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo declared that the 2027 presidential election will be a “coronation” for Tinubu, while the president defended the neutrality of the Independent National Electoral Commission and said he will fight the election to the finish. He also asserted that Nigeria’s economy has recovered and that security coordination is improving.
