Nigerian Bar Association emphasizes legal security and police preparedness

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has highlighted the necessity of security and professionalism within the legal and electoral sectors. NBA President Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya emphasized that strengthening the capacity and operational preparedness of police personnel is vital for safeguarding the electoral process and maintaining public confidence in democratic institutions.

During a training session for 10,000 police officers regarding election security management for the 2027 General Elections, the NBA urged law enforcement to remain neutral, professional, and accountable. The training covers critical areas including crowd control, conflict prevention, human rights, and intelligence gathering.

Separately, former NBA Vice President Dr. Monday Ubani SAN addressed the NBA Oron Branch, calling for a safe and dignified environment for legal practitioners. He stressed that true security in legal practice involves protection from threats, intimidation, and unlawful interference, ensuring lawyers can discharge their duties without fear of retaliation.
