Nigerian Bar Association holds annual conference in Port Harcourt
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) recently held its Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt under the theme ‘Transcending Limits and Reimagining the Bar’. The event brought together thousands of legal practitioners, policymakers, and members of the judiciary for a week of advocacy and networking.
The conference occurred during a period of transition for the NBA, following a contested leadership election marked by allegations of ethnic and religious interference, cyberattacks, and legal petitions. The gathering also took place against a backdrop of national challenges in Nigeria, including economic hardship and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Amid the professional proceedings, a notable act of integrity was highlighted involving Chinasa Cynthia Okoro, a local Point of Sale (POS) operator. After a lawyer from Abuja was accidentally debited twice for a N70,000 transaction, Okoro discovered the excess funds in her account. Despite the client having already left the city, Okoro actively sought to return the money by coordinating with conference organizers and visiting the NBA Secretariat to ensure the funds reached the rightful owner.
