Nigerian Basketball Player Daniel Adegboyega Arrested in Alabama on First‑Degree Rape Charge

Daniel Tobiloba Adegboyega, a 21‑year‑old Nigerian national who plays centre for the Jacksonville State University men’s basketball team, was taken into custody by Jacksonville police on Wednesday. He is being held at the Calhoun County Jail in Alabama pending a bond hearing and an immigration hold by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Authorities allege he committed first‑degree rape by forcible compulsion on July 29, 2026. The university announced his immediate suspension from all team activities. Adegboyega, who previously played at California Baptist and South Florida, has appeared in 27 college games. The case remains under investigation and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
