Nigerian Bishop denounces Christian persecution as genocide

Wilfred Chikpa Anagbe, the Catholic Bishop of Makurdi, has denounced the ongoing violence against Christians in Nigeria, describing the situation as a ‘genocide’. He argues that the attacks are not merely community disputes or resource conflicts, but a coordinated jihadist offensive aimed at the total elimination of Christian populations.

Anagbe claims there is a ‘calculated strategy of Islamization’ occurring across various regions. He suggests that armed attacks are being used to displace Christian communities to facilitate the occupation of their territories. The Bishop highlighted Benue State, where his diocese is located, as one of the most dangerous areas due to frequent village attacks, killings, and community displacements.
