Nigerian boxers face controversial decisions at African Boxing Championships

Nigerian boxers have faced controversial judging decisions during the African Boxing Elite Championships in Nairobi. Aishat Gbadamosi lost a disputed 3-1 decision in the women’s featherweight category to Algeria’s Douaa Rouaz, while Abdulramon Abdulwahab suffered a 4-1 decision loss to Egypt’s Hekal Ahmed in the men’s light middleweight category.

Gbadamosi stated she was not disappointed by the result, noting that she used the experience to study her performance via replay. She emphasized her commitment to her career, stating, “I am a boxer, and I was born a boxer.”

Despite the setbacks, Nigeria’s Head of Delegation, Capt. Rasulun Kashim, expressed confidence in the national team. He praised the Nigeria Boxing Federation’s leadership for their support and emphasized that international exposure is vital for the development of Nigerian fighters. Kashim maintained that the athletes have demonstrated encouraging qualities and that consistent investment will build a stronger foundation for future competitions.
