Nigerian Breweries Holds 55% Beer Market Share as Marketing Veteran Tony Agenmonmen Turns 70

Nigerian Breweries Plc, founded in 1946 and launching Star Lager in 1949, now controls about 55% of Nigeria's beer market. In 2024 the company sold more beer than Guinness Nigeria and International Breweries combined, a lead attributed to a broad product portfolio, extensive distribution and strong local brand loyalty.

On August 8 in Lagos, the firm and Nigeria's marketing community celebrated the 70th birthday of Tony Agenmonmen, a three‑decade veteran of Nigerian Breweries. Agenmonmen’s career spanned brand management, consumer insight and corporate leadership, and he later founded the annual Nigeria Marketing Awards. Now a consultant, he continues to influence the country's marketing profession.
