Nigerian Christian and Muslim youth groups sign peace accord

Christian and Muslim youth groups in Nigeria have signed a peace accord to promote stability and prevent violence surrounding the 2027 general elections. The agreement was signed by the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) and the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) at the National Christian Centre in Abuja.

The accord was finalized during the 2026 National Christian Youth Security Summit, an event that included security officials, government representatives, and religious leaders alongside youth delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Ven. Evang. Ademola Arowolo, National Chairman of YOWICAN, described the agreement as a ‘covenant of hope and a declaration of unity.’ He emphasized the importance of interfaith collaboration and urged young Nigerians to reject political thuggery and vote-buying to protect the sanctity of human life during the upcoming electoral cycle.
