Nigerian Correctional Service promotes staff welfare and inmate rehabilitation

Officials within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) are focusing on personnel welfare and inmate rehabilitation across different states.

In Kogi State, Controller of Corrections Hadiza Inna Aminu held a sensitization lecture titled ‘Small Money, Big Future’ to encourage staff to adopt financial discipline. Professor Abdul Adamu of Nasarawa State University provided a budgeting framework for officers, suggesting a split of 50 percent for needs, 30 percent for wants, 10 percent for emergencies, and 10 percent for investments to achieve long-term financial stability.

In Ogun State, Controller Abioye Adesina called for increased collaboration with private entities and NGOs to bolster inmate reintegration programs. During a graduation ceremony at the Old Abeokuta Custodial Centre, 28 inmates completed basic computer skills training organized by the Centre for Legal Support and Inmate Rehabilitation and the Kastenbeelo Computer Training Institute. Adesina emphasized that such vocational training is essential for helping inmates become self-reliant and productive members of society upon release.
