Nigerian Correctional Service unveils new training doctrine and badges

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has introduced a new unified training doctrine and standardized professional course badges. This initiative replaces the 2019 training manual with a framework designed to reflect contemporary correctional practices and ensure consistency in training across all service cadres and disciplines nationwide.

Controller-General Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche noted that the new manual and badges aim to strengthen professionalism and institutional identity. The standardized badges cover various ranks, including the Advanced Command Course and Chief Superintendent of Corrections.

Separately, the NCoS Oyo State Command reported that drug-related offences are the primary reason for inmate custody in its centers. During an inmate debate competition in Ibadan, Deputy Controller of Corrections David Akadiri emphasized the service's focus on rehabilitation, noting that the government has provided workshops and schools within facilities to help inmates reintegrate into society as productive citizens.
