Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Restores Access to INEC Portal Amid Legal Battle

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) faced a Federal High Court ruling that set aside a prior judgment ordering its registration as a political party. The party filed an appeal and a stay of execution, serving the relevant documents to INEC. Following the appeal, INEC restored the NDC’s access to its candidate nomination portal, allowing the party to upload names, including its presidential candidate Peter Obi and party leader Senator Seriake Dickson. The party said it would continue uploading its vice‑presidential and other candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that the INEC timetable still permits submissions until early July.

INEC also confirmed that it has granted access codes to several registered parties—including the APC, PDP, ADC and NDC—to upload candidate lists for the upcoming elections. The commission denied claims that the NDC was denied access, calling such reports misinformation. The ongoing legal dispute centers on whether the court’s judgment nullifying the NDC’s registration should stand, with the party urging the judiciary to uphold its right to participate in the electoral process.
